Lesson Plan for Evaluating Arirang [Aɾiɾaŋ]
Grade Level: Grades 4-12, general music classes
Objectives:
· Students will be able to discern a Westernized arrangement of Arirang from an authentic version of
the Arirang.
· Students will be able to explain differences between these two versions of Arirang with proper musical terms.
Duration: approximately 10 minutes
Procedures:
1. Hand out the work sheet for music evaluation to students.
2. Have students listen to two recordings of Arirang and critically compare and contrast an authentic version of the Arirang to its Western adaption.

Assessment:
Use the vocabulary that you have learned in music class (e.g., vocal tone, rhythm, expression, etc.) You will be given one point for each statement that refers to a music “event” with appropriate vocabulary (up to 10 points in all).
